SHRUG exists for the benefit of all SolidWorks users – but specifically those in the Hampton Roads area. These include professionals, educators, students, and hobbyists. We promote the collaboration of ideas and facilitate networking of SolidWorks enthusiasts, providing education and support among the user base. Our goal is to enhance the knowledge and skill set of design professionals and to create a network of local SolidWorks users.
The SolidWorks Hampton Roads User Group formed in 2009 to serve the user community in our area. SolidWorks user groups provide an opportunity for users to come together and discuss topics related to SolidWorks and other complimentary products. We regularly invite industry professionals to discuss a variety of subjects; from “How-to” sessions on SolidWorks functionality, “Ask the experts” Q&A sessions with Application engineers from resellers to presentations on SolidWorks add-ins, as well as products like 3D printers, 3D scanners, and other peripheral devices that SolidWorks users are most interested in. Members are encouraged to participate by asking questions, offering their own suggestions/solutions to questions, and even presenting topics themselves. Food and refreshments (alcohol-free) are provided at every meeting. We also have a variety of SolidWorks branded giveaways at each meeting. In addition, vendors sometimes sponsor larger prizes to be raffled away to those in attendance.
We hold meetings at least once per quarter, and may begin bi-monthly meetings in the near future. Meetings typically start at 6PM, and last approximately 2 hours. All of our meetings are free of charge, and open to anyone who would like to attend, regardless of industry, employer, reseller affiliation, or subscription status – you do not have to own SolidWorks to attend. Shrug does not charge a membership fee of any kind.
